January 19, 2012 Golden, CO: The winner of the poster contest has been chosen and will be officially unveiled at The Preview Event at The Mercury Café on Friday, January 20th at 6:00pm. The 2012 Poster Contest Winner is Cari Jones, 24 of Louiseville, CO.
Cari is a Colorado native with a long-standing passion for both the arts and the biological and environmental sciences. She received her degree in Biology from Carleton College, but during her time at college she also focused heavily on Cinema and Media Studies, often spending just as much time in the film and media lab as in the biology lab. Since graduating, she has worked to further combine her two passions and is currently enrolled in University of Illinois’ program for Biomedical Visualization, a program dedicated to furthering the dissemination of medical and scientific knowledge through the development of professional visual education tools. Her hope is that her work will serve to inspire and educate people on a wide variety of scientific topics.
Upon winning this contest Cari exclaimed “I am thrilled to be a part of this year’s Colorado Environmental Film Festival. I look forward to enjoying the works of other artists who are similarly dedicated to increasing awareness of and finding solutions to the environmental challenges that face us today.”
The nearly sold out Preview Event features entertainment by Gabrielle Louise and will be emceed by Jonny 5 of the Flobots. Doors open at 6 p.m. with a social hour and opportunity to order dinner from the Mercury's organic menu. at 7:00 the entertainment will begin, toggling between previews for this year's films, live director's commentary, and musical interludes. Organizations which supporting local solutions and the efforts of this year's films will be present to answer questions about how audience members can make a difference in their communities! Tickets are $15 and includes dessert.
